Why does the library have a blog?
This new and improved blog was relaunched in January 2007 with the aim to promote the many services we provide to Providence College and the surrounding communities. The blog will report timely news and announcements about the library, collections, services, technology, and other resources. We encourage the PC community to comment on library services and to share their experiences with the library.
How do I post a comment or make suggestions?
To comment on any post:
- Click on the “No Comments>>” or “# Comments>>” link that appears at the end of each post. Enter your comments in the box that appears under “Leave a Reply” then click the “Submit Comment” button to send your comment. Comments appear in the order submitted and if others have already made comments, you may need to scroll down a bit before you get to the comment box. OR
- Click on the title of an individual post, scroll down past any comments and enter your comments in the box and click the “Submit Comment” button to send your comment.
How do I subscribe to this blog?
You can subscribe to the blog by clicking on the ” Subscribe to this Blog” link on the right-hand side of our home page. This gets you access to an RSS feed that gives you the most up-to-date information that has been posted or commented on the Library blog.
RSS, short for Really Simple Syndication, lets you quickly bookmark our blog (similar to adding a website to your “favorites” list) using feedreader or RSS Aggregator. Using an aggregator is also a convenient way to keep up with a blog without having to constantly check it. Major newspapers such as the New York Times and Wall Street Journal also make their current news content available using RSS feeds.
Using the RSS Feed:
- First, you need to pick an RSS aggregator. There are three types: a) desktop aggregator software that you download to your own computer, b) a web-based aggregator that you simply subscribe to and access anywhere there is an internet connection, or c) through one of the new web browsers that support RSS bookmarking like Firefox, Internet Explorer 7 or Safari.
- There are several web-based RSS aggregators to choose from, many of them free. Bloglines is one popular, free web-based aggregator. Here is a list of other RSS aggregators. Once you pick an aggregator, go back to our blog home page and click on the “Subscribe to this blog” link to add the feed. A new page will open up with lots of html/computer code on it. Ignore this. Just copy the web address at the top of the browser window, paste it in your aggregator and you are all set!
