Basic Steps for Troubleshooting Scanners
You might find when you go to scan something for one reason or another the computer is not recognizing the scanner.  Here are some basic steps you can try to solve this problem:

  1. Check The Power Make sure the scanner’s power switch is turned on.  A green light appears on the front of the scanner when the equipment is turned on.  The switch to turn on the scanner is located on the right hand side of the scanner towards the back.
  2. Check The Connections Turn off your computer and scanner, and then check the USB cable connection between them to make sure it is secure.  Once secure, turn on the scanner first and then turn on the computer.
  3. Recycle The Power If it appears that your scanner is frozen (turned on but not moving) try unplugging the power cable to the back of the scanner.  Shutdown your computer.  Plug the Scanner back into power and then restart computer.
  4. Get Help If you try these trick and the scanner still does not work contact us at the digital services lab x1517 or dsl@providence.edu.  It could be as simple as the scanner software needs to be re-installed or something more complicated requiring outside assistance.

The Digital Services Lab is located in Room 110, in the rear of the main floor of Phillips Memorial Library. We are open Mon-Thur 10am-9pm, Fri 8:30am-4:30pm, and Sun 5-9pm. Feel free to stop by if you have any questions about the Library’s Macintosh, Scanner, or other Technology Resources.
